Jason

 

JASON SULKIN, Founder of Music School To Go
Guitar

Sonoma State University, B.A. in Music Performance

Born in Tarzana and raised in the Conejo Valley, Jason started playing the guitar at the age of 11. He continued to play guitar throughout high school and it wasn’t long before he developed a strong repertoire and a love for all styles of music. Jason went on to further his studies at Sonoma State University School of Music where he studied under the tutelage of Mel Graves focusing on jazz theory and improvisation and jazz composition. During his music training, Jason was a member of the highly acclaimed Sonoma State University Jazz Ensemble. Jason also studied extensively with renowned San Francisco Bay Area guitarists Steve Sage and Randy Vincent, two great guitar players and mentors who he credits for bringing out the discipline and skills he would need for a lifetime of music achievements and expression. Jason is a professional musician, educator, performer and recording guitarist. He works and performs with a variety of jazz groups and ensembles in Southern California and continues to indulge his passion for the guitar.

 


Marcos

 

MARCOS

Berklee College of Music, B.A. in Music

San Francisco born, Venezuela raised, Marcos was born into a musical family and his background is as rich as his musical diversity and passion. Marcos started playing guitar and bass at the age of 16 under the teachings of Alejandro Menendez. At the young age of 17, he was accepted at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, having incredibly only started to play Guitar, Bass and Piano a year earlier. Just before entering Berklee, he started playing Keyboards under the teachings of Francisco Aragües, to whom he attributes not only most of his knowledge in music but also a lot of his knowledge as a human being. In 2006 Marcos graduated with honors (Cum-laude) with a major in Film Scoring.

 


Amanda

 

AMANDA
Voice, Piano, Flute

UC Davis, B.A. in Music and Vocal Performance

Amanda's love of music began at the age of five when she started playing piano and grew even stronger as she began playing flute in her elementary school band. Amanda has a love for musical theater and has been featured in choral works such as The Road Home, Amazin' Grace and Ives' Symphony 4. She has sung with the Chorus and San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow in the UC Davis production of "Carmen" as well as Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas", Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus, and The Magic Flute. Amanda performs in Musical Theater and has played a wide variety of roles including The Wizard of Oz, Sweet Charity and West Side Story where she played the role of Maria.

 


 

Andy

 

ANDY
Drums & Percussion, Piano, Violin, Viola

Cal State Northridge, B.A. in Music Performance

Andy started playing piano at age five and by age thirteen began studying the viola and joined his middle school’s string orchestra as well as the Conejo Youth Symphony. In high school, Andy started playing drumset as a hobby but soon found it to be yet another instrument he was passionate about. At California State University Northridge, Andy was a member of the Wind Symphony as well as the Symphony Orchestra, and was appointed section leader of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Andy has been teaching full time as well as playing with the African music ensemble Masanga. He has taught all ages between five and seventy-five, and all styles from classical to jazz and popular music. With both of his parents being educators as well, Andy is very familiar with many teaching methods and can adapt his teaching style to suit any student. Andy is continuing his education at Cal State University to work on his Masters Degree in Music Performance.

 


Scott

 

SCOTT

Cal State Northridge, B.A. in Music

Scott was introduced to music at the age of seven when he started playing the flute. His love for playing music blossomed as he took up the piano at age 14. He received his B.A. in Music Education in 2000 and continued his studies at Cal State Northridge in the Credential Program and received his Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music in 2007. Scott is a prominent music educator in the Conejo Valley for more than 15 years and teaches flute and piano in private and group settings. He has worked extensively with students of all ages and has always seen himself as a music teacher, continuing to enrich the lives of children and providing them with quality music education.

 


Corinne

 

CORINNE
Voice, Piano

Michigan State University, B.M. Jazz Vocal Studies

Corinne has an extensive musical theatre background. She recently returned to the U.S. from a 28-country tour of Europe as a lead vocalist on the Azamara Journey cruise ship, part of Celebrity Cruises. Since then, she has been featured in commercials, performed in a rock-and-roll musical, sang the national anthem at an L.A. Lakers game and has been working on studio recordings and short films. Corinne also has an extensive piano background. She studied classically starting at the age of 9, and at Michigan State University started playing jazz piano to accompany her singing. She has taught piano privately as well as at the Hermosa School of Dance and Music in Hermosa Beach. In her home state of Michigan, she performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, sang the national anthem for the Detroit Tigers, and spent a year singing with the Michigan State University Jazz Orchestra in the Midwest and Japan, just to name a few.

 


Max

 

MAX
Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Flute & Piano

UCLA, B.A. in Music

Max’s extensive education paired with his passion for music makes him the perfect teacher for any student. Max’s love for music started at the age of 9 when he began taking private violin and clarinet lessons. This knowledge has served as the basis for all of his musical training. Finding a love for all types of music, max soon learned the piano, flute and saxophone. Throughout high school, Max played in various music groups including Lee Secard's Jazz workshops at the Colburn School, the Glendale Youth Orchestra and the CSUN Youth Orchestra. In 2004 Max began his studies at UCLA with Professor Gary Gray. By the end of his studies, Max added a double concentration studying composition with Professors Ian Krouse, David Lefkowitz, Paul Chihara and Roger Bourland, just to name a few. Max is currently a free-lance musician, composer and educator. He plays in a variety of jazz and popular music groups and composes music for short films.

 


Lusine

Cal State Northridge, B.A. in Violin Performance

Lusine is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in vocal performance at UCLA. Lusine is the first place winner of the Showcase Awards and first place winner of the Concerto Competition. She was also selected as a finalist in the 2010 Classical Singer Competition and will be competing in New York City in the finals. Lusine performed at the 50th annual Grammy Awards with the Foo Fighters and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. You may have seen her in the 2009 movie Fame as the main violin student, orchestra concertmistress, and piano student.

 


 

Elad

UC Santa Cruz, B.A. Music, San Jose State University, CA Teaching Credential, Music Education

Elad grew up playing guitar and drums in the Conejo Valley. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz, where he was one of the few undergraduates to be selected as a music lab instructor, he worked as a full-time music teacher for the Boys & Girls Club. There he taught private and group lessons for kids aged 7-17, playing professionally on the side for musicals and with various rock and jazz bands. He then decided to pursue teaching music professionally. To broaden his expertise, Elad took on learning the saxophone and piano concurrent with earning his teaching credential at SJSU. To ensure that music is meaningful and fun for every student, his teaching style is focused on student strengths and interests and building on those to complete a rounded education.

Berklee College of Music, B.A in Professional music

Born in Morristown New Jersey and raised in Boston, Bill began his musical journey at 11 years old when he got his first guitar. With one year of lessons under his belt, he started his first band and has not looked back since. While engaging in his studies, Bill worked as an audio engineer and session guitarist in both Boston and Los Angeles. After graduating Berklee (Magna Cum-laude), Bill moved to Los Angeles to continue his career working as a session guitarist and audio engineer. Currently Bill works throughout the Los Angeles area in both live and studio settings. Bill believes playing the guitar should be enjoyable and rewarding, and he hopes his students feel as passionate about playing their instrument as he does!

Kaelie

 

KAELIE
Violin

Arizona State University, B.A. Music

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Kaelie started taking violin lessons at the age of 7. She continued with private lessons and participated in many youth orchestras until 2003 when she began her bachelor's in music at ASU. During this time she was also a member of a local rock band called Evan Brightly in which she discovered her love of writing her own musical material. Her range of experience allows her to have a unique set of skills to offer students. She has performed in symphony orchestras, solo classical recitals, and rock concerts, and is excited about helping each student discover his or her own voice through their instrument.

 


Nicole

 

NICOLE
Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano, Guitar

Masters of Music in Clarinet Performance, University Southern California; University of New Hampshire, B.A., Music Education

Nicole started her musical endeavors with clarinet in 4th grade and continued on to the saxophone in high school to join the jazz band. She has performed in many orchestras as a soloist. Nicole was a saxophonist and clarinetist with the College Light Opera Orchestra in Massachusetts for two summers where she performed in 20 off-Broadway shows including Candide and 42nd Street. She has been under the baton of celebrated conductors such as Joseph Silverstein and H. Robert Reynolds. Nicole has also performed with the Sarasota Festival Orchestra in the summer of 2008. She has been a part of many organizations including the Thornton Outreach Program and a teacher at the William Grant Still Jazz and Art Camp. She actively teaches private music lessons on clarinet, saxophone and more in the LA and Ventura County areas. Nicole enjoys teaching all styles of music to students of all ages.

 


Jon

 

JON
Trumpet and Brass Specialist

MFA, Trumpet Performance, Cal Arts; University of New Hampshire, B.A., Music Education

Jon has performed all over Hollywood and L.A. from REDCAT in Disney Hall to the Key Club. He loves to participate in a wide variety of projects and is always eager to collaborate with other musicians as well as artists in other fields! Jon started playing trumpet at age 10 and has been in love with music ever since. He studied music at the University of New Hampshire, where he learned music theory, studied composition, and continued to play trumpet. Privately, he studied classical trumpet under Allan Dean of Yale University, Bob Stibler of the National Symphony, Internationally renowned trumpeter Edward Carroll and with Jazz legend Clark Terry. While still in school he performed for 2 seasons with the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra. Upon moving to California in 2009 Jon earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

 


Shanon

 

SHANON
Violin and Piano

Cal State Northridge, B.M., Violin Performance

Shanon grew up in Thousand Oaks, CA, and as the youngest of a musical family, began playing the violin as a toddler. At the age of nine she began studying piano and music theory. In the seventh grade Shanon joined the New West Youth Symphony and numerous pit orchestras in the community. While still in High School, Shanon studied violin and music theory in the Moorpark College Applied Program. Having roots in old-time fiddle as well as classical violin, Shanon has always been interested in alternative violin styles and began studying Jazz music while at California State University Northridge. While currently working as a music educator and performer, Shanon is also pursuing her Masters of Music in Violin Performance at Cal State Northridge.

 

 


Raquel

 

RAQUEL
Voice, Piano

The Boston Conservatory of Music, B.F.A in Musical Theater

Raquel began taking voice & piano lessons in elementary school and performed at her local children's theater. She caught the theater bug at an early age and has been committed to her craft ever since. While attending Calabasas High School, Raquel started an all girls a cappella group, was president of the Theater Arts Club and starred in school plays. While attending The Boston Conservatory of Music, Raquel started teaching piano and voice lessons as well as directing musicals at numerous summer camps. In addition to teaching, she has performed in theaters all across the country. Raquel starred as Tracy in Hairspray, sang the National Anthem at Staples Center and Fenway Park, and performed with the Boston Pop's at Symphony Hall and Royce Hall for PBS. She wrote, directed, and starred in her own one-woman show at the famous Upstairs at Vittellos in Studio City. Raquel is currently teaching "Acting the Song" workshops at middle schools and high schools in the San Fernando Valley as well as performing in commercials and on TV. She loves teaching students of all ages who share her passion for music.

 

 


Lorenzo

 

LORENZO
Guitar, Piano

University of Southern California, B.A. in Music Performance

San Francisco Bay Area native, Lorenzo was born into a musical family and began playing piano and guitar at a young age. Lorenzo started playing music around the Bay Area professionally at the age of 16 while studying with guitar instructor Steve Sage. After high school he was accepted into USC's Thornton School of Music to study music performance. At USC he studied privately with Russ Ferrante, pianist and leader or the jazz group the Yellowjackets, and Bruce Forman, Los Angeles based jazz guitarist. In 2011 Lorenzo graduated from USC and is continuing to pursue his professional career in music in Southern California.
